It's Spring!

We enjoyed the first day of spring by going on a hike and having a picnic lunch. Nature provided us with loads of entertainment. There were lots of butterflies that the kids tried catching. Kirsten was the only successful one. There were also ladybugs that were easier to catch. Malena brought one back to the house that she named, Rosa. She plans on releasing it tomorrow before flying home. Not long after we got home, it started to rain and didn't stop the rest of the day. We planned that perfectly!

Hello March

For as long as I can remember I have always looked forward to the month of March. My pre-twenty years I counted down to the month because I couldn't wait for my birthday. However, now that I have stopped keeping track of my age, I enjoy this month for another reason. It ushers in spring; blossoms, warmth, new life, longer days, tulips, etc. Hands down the best month to be born in.

Hooray for the First Day of Spring

Despite continued wintry conditions in much of the United States, California has enjoyed spring-like weather for some time now.  However, today officially marks the beginning of my favorite season.

For me, spring brings the blossoms, poppies, strawberries, the sound of buzzing bees, driving around town with the windows down, sweet smells from my jasmine, and the end of school.

To celebrate spring, Kirsten made a birdcage out of wire hangers. She wrapped torn fabric strips around the wire and glued spring inspired accessories to it like, birds, butterflies, and flowers.

Colors of Filoli Garden

Spring is in full bloom. Mom Zinn invited us to see the beautiful colors of Filoli's Garden with her.
Before we could start our walk, I had to take care of Loni who had a HUGE explosion during the car ride to the gardens. The pooh was everywhere. The cleanup required almost an entire case of wipes.
Dave-o was our tour guide. Mom Zinn gave him the map and he told us where to go and where not to go.

Spring Gardens

Experiencing spring in NorCal isn't complete until you visit the Filoli gardens. Thanks for inviting us Mom Zinn!
Oh, the wonderful smells!
This was my favorite potted arrangement. I want my porch to look like this!
I didn't realize there were so many different varieties of daffodils.

Aren't these gorgeous tulips!
A sea of red! My favorite!
Are you feeling inspired? I am.

It's the First Day of Spring

Spring is my favorite season. The colors of new life make me feel alive and happy. Our nearby hills are green with patches of yellow and orange Poppies (CA state flower). On our way to church, Kirsten commented on today being the first day of spring. Then she asked if we had tomorrow off from school so that we can celebrate this wonderful season. I said no (but secretly I agree with her desire).

Spring?

This was the first weekend of spring. Yet, we had a winter storm.
Previously in the week, we were spoiled with high 70 degree weather.
I began making a mental list of all the plants and trees I wanted to buy:
Grapefruit tree
Lemon tree
Tomatoes
Peppers
Grapes
Herbs
Flowers

But the cold drove those thoughts away. Brrr!

Maybe next week will be the time for spring planting.

I hope!
