A Spirited Evening

My biggest fear has always been anything related to ghosts. Casper, the friendly ghost, is the only exception. It is a fear so profound, that even David knows never to provoke me into a conversation involving evil spirits, especially at night. Even as I type this, I am struck with paralyzing fear.

To my surprise, David began watching a show last night about the 10 most scariest cities. Normally, I would have left the room. But for some reason I decided to try watching it thinking it would be about aliens or zombies or werewolves or vampires. All of which I am not afraid of. Boy was I wrong. The show focused on demons and spirits.

At the end of the show, I was 100% freaked out! And it was time for bed. This is when the house is at it's quietest. This is when my worst fears come out to play. David went upstairs to close the windows and check on the kiddos. I went in our bedroom and immediately heard a high pitched sound. It's the sound that a TV makes when it is on. But, our TV's screen was blank. I thought I'd ask David if he heard the same sound. While I waited for him to return, I checked on the baby and found him sleeping peacefully. When I re-entered our room, I froze. The televisions screen was no longer blank. It was now "snowy". The words "They're heeeere" immediately entered my mind (queue music). I couldn't believe that a movie I had watched while a teenager was now haunting me.

David returned and found me outside of our bedroom door hugging my pillow. I pointed at the TV and told him my theory of what was going on. Spirits were definitely at play here.

David, being the analytical type, simply said, "The TV's broken."

"No," I argued. "There are spirits in our home."

David then inspected the television and repeated, "It's broken."

I was about to disagree again, when he showed me the proof.
There was a pool of water at the base of the television. Sitting on top was the spray bottle that I use when cutting hair.

"Someone must have dumped the water on the TV," explained David.

"You mean Something. Not Someone," I said.

Upon further investigation, we discovered that the bottom of the spray bottle had a very small leak.

I was relieved that the culprit was not an evil spirit sent to haunt me. I was also sad that our TV was dead. It was the first TV we bought as a married couple. David's been wanting to get a flat screen for our room, but for sentimental and economical reasons, I haven't wanted to get rid of our old TV.

Ahhh....the light has gone on.

The real culprit...............David
The motive.....................To buy a brand spanken new flat screen television.
