Electricity is Good

If you were to look at the kitchen today, you wouldn't notice any major differences. With the demo done, the focus is now on electrical and plumbing. Apparently the existing electrical work is a hot mess, so our contractor is fixing everything.

Yesterday's plan of going on a day trip didn't pan out. The first half of my day was spent helping a friend who was in a car accident. The second half of the day, we went to Costco and then enjoyed the sunshine in the swimming pool. Some neighborhood kids also joined us. By dinner, our electricity was working downstairs! Hooray!

Demolition Complete

Third day of demo and each day is feeling like an eternity. It's a struggle to find activities to entertain the kids, aka Loni. Tomorrow, we'll have to venture outside of the home for a little day trip. I need a change of scenery.

The big update for today? The wall is gone!! So is the floor, but the wall is more exciting news.  The open space now gives us a sense of what the room will look and feel like.  Up until now, we've only had computerized renderings to visualize our dream kitchen. Reality is much better. The demo is officially done. Now the workers will focus on electrical and plumbing.

Demo Day 2

Today was spent on the ceiling, the enclave that will be turned into a desk area, and the peeling away of the wall. The big question was answered, "Is the wall a support beam?" Our pocketbooks are relieved the answer is no. So far the only surprise discovered in the demo was a big dead rat found in the wall.

Our makeshift kitchen is working out well upstairs. The microwave also doubles as a convection oven and my slow cooker is being put to use.

We had an unplanned expenditure occur. Our refrigerator stopped working last night. We've had it since Texas, so I suppose it served it's lifespan. I just hate having to spend more money.

Demolition Day

Day 1 of demolition has begun! It was exactly how I imagined it to be; loud. One thing I didn't expect was our power being turned off downstairs. Luckily, we have the upstairs to live in while the chaos insues below.

After the workers left for the day, I opened the plastic barrier, that is keeping the dust from spreading throughout the house, to show the kids what's left of the kitchen. When Loni saw it she asked, "What's this place?" I reminded her that it was the kitchen and she disagreed saying that our kitchen is white.
